MT & TM differences

End clients should not confuse Machine Translation with Translation Memory tools, often referred as CAT tools, i.e. Computer-Aided Translation. A machine can only translate simple terms or sentences accurately, but cannot possibly render complex sentence structures, idiomatic subtleties and cultural references or take into account a specific context, tone or register. At FTS, we never use machine translation. We only use translation memory tools which help linguists translate faster by leveraging existing approved translations and research terminology more efficiently.

We can process the following file formats: *.rc (software resource files), *.doc, *.rtf, *.xls, *.ppt, *.html, *.xml, *.txml, *.ttx, *.isc, *.txt.
